As the Handa Center’s Program Coordinator, Steve is primarily responsible for events, communications, and a wide range of programming for the Handa Center.
Steve is a former political and labor organizer who turned to the human rights field in recent years. He studied Social Thought & Political Economy at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he minored in African Studies and taught a full course on contemporary slavery for his honors capstone project. After a decade in political campaigns and advocacy, he rededicated himself to human rights work, starting by working/volunteering for anti-slavery organizations in Ghana and Australia. He’s currently pursuing the University of Nottingham's masters program in Slavery & Liberation.
Outside the professional realm, Steve spends a good amount of time hiking, biking, and camping. He has a goal of visiting all 60 U.S. national parks and has been to over half so far.
