Handa Center Convenes Workshop to Discuss Potential Crimes against Humanity in Mexico

In partnership with Stanford Law School, UC Hastings College of the Law, and the International Federation for Human Rights, the WSD HANDA Center for Human Rights and International Justice convened a workshop January 29 and 30 on campus to analyze the potential commission of crimes against humanity in Mexico. More than a dozen experts from across academia and civil society contributed to the conversation, unpacking the legal terminology, examining historical data on human rights violations, and proposing potential judicial recourse.  Participants represented both Mexican and international human rights organizations in communication with the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court regarding allegations of torture, severe deprivation of liberty, and enforced disappearances in Mexico. Workshop participants aim to reconvene in the spring to report on their progress.
